Daily Dawn is the oldest Pakistani newspaper in English. It is published by Herald Publications of Pakistan which also have their own magazine Herald, The Star (evening paper) and Spider (an information technology) magazine. The founder member or the pioneer of Dawn newspaper is Mohammad Ali Jinnah who launched it in India (Delhi) in 1942. Initially it was a weekly publication but in October 1942 it became a daily newspaper under the supervision of first editor Pothan Joseph. Later Altaf Husain took over his charge in 1944 and work hard to oppose Hindus, to unite Muslim and to aware them from military dictators. Dawn has played an important role in opening the eyes of the blind folded nation and providing them a path and a platform to unite.
In 1947 when Pakistan appeared on the global map as an independent and separate state. Dawn news became the strongest alley of Pakistan Muslim League. As at that time it was the only newspaper which was under the supervision and ownership of Muslims.
