Dawn is the oldest Pakistani
newspaper. Its is Published by Herald publications of Pakistan which also
have there own magazine Herald, The Star (evening paper) and Spider (an
information technology) magazine. It was found in 1941 by Mohammad Ali
Jinnah in India(Delhi). Initially it was a weekly publication but in October
1942 it became a daily newspaper under the supervision of first editor
Pothan Joseph. Altaf Husain took over his charge in 1944 and work hard
to oppose Hindus, to unite Muslim and to aware them from military dictators.
After the creation of Pakistan, under the ownership of Mr. Jinnah, it
became the strong organ of Pakistan Muslim League because at that time
it was the only paper that was under the supervision of Muslims. Dawn
newspaper has a weekly circulations of about 138000. Dawn is on the mission
of providing latest news not only related to Pakistan but also from the
world wide. Hameed Haroon is the CEO of Dawn group and Zaffar Abbas is
current editor. This newspaper has branches in Karachi, Islamabad and
Lahore and also many representatives in abroad. You can find news related
to business, sports, SCI-Tech, entertainment and many more in it. These
news can be found daily but on Sunday paper there is a special portion
for weekend advertiser like "Ad Buzz", "Real Estate"
and " Career".
It is widely read and liked by all the readers not in the country (Pakistan) but in other countries as well. After the great success of door to door circulation of paper this newspaper is also available online. You can read daily news on the website "www.dawn.com". In addition to all of above Dawn also collects the information from The Guardian, Los Angeles Times, The independent and The Washington Post and write articles on them. Other than that Dawn also have their own blog where they discuss and highlight the current and important issues of Pakistan and their impacts on other countries. You can also take part in discuss online on Dawn's forum where public is warmly welcomed. Dawn is also available on facebook and twitter for open discussions. Dawn also publish weekly magazine which is "Sunday Magazine", in which they write some stories for kids, some cultural story, articles related to health and sports. In July 2007 Dawn has also launched the Pakistan's first 24 hour English Channel "Dawn News" to aware people to the current national and international stories. They were doing their best job but in 2010 because of financial difficulties they switched there channel from English to Urdu. |
